BIO

Starry Eyed Bitches - released in the early spring of 2002 - is Aida Zilelian’s second CD. Her CD release party at CB’s Gallery garnered the attention of over 100 listeners, who watched her perform with a full five-piece band for the first time. Prior to this, she had been performing solo with vocals and a guitar, which is most keenly reflected in her debut CD "Wide-Eyed" (March 1999).

Unlike Wide Eyed, Starry Eyed Bitches offers a more dramatic and instrumental flair that is characterized by a low, melodic bass, two guitars, booming percussions, and finally, Aida’s voice. Although the contrast between both CDs are extreme, Aida’s style is not unrecognizable from her formative material. Most reviewers classify her material as indie folk:

"Striking in its starkness and simplicity, New York indie folk singer-songwriter and guitarist Aida's seven track debut album 'Wide Eyed' has no overdubs, no sound effects and its production is deliberately bared down and muted. It is, however, this which makes it so compelling and forcible.."

Pennyblack Music UK; 2001

"While I'm not usually the greatest enthusiast for music within this particular vein of singer/songwriter folkiness," Aida muses, "and have long harbored an admittedly unreasonable prejudice against artists performing under their own name, ‘Starry Eyed Bitches’ did not fail to impress me. Aida's cleanly produced, "professional sounding" vocals make her sound highly reminiscent of Tori Amos or maybe a far, far, far less heavy version of the Cranberries."

A writer and musician for half her life, Aida has been singing for the past nine years. During the last three of those years she has performed solo at numerous clubs throughout New York City; namely the C Note, the Meow Mix, Acme Underground, B Bar, Izzy Bar and most frequently CB’s Gallery.

Aida’s voice was recently featured on the new single "Static Screams", written by SinSinSix (NYC), and can be heard on several college radio stations in NYC and Long Island. (www.sinsinsix.com/music.html). She has also received publicity and radio play at several radio stations in the UK and Portugal as well as in Philadelphia.
